Dr. N .Kannan obtained an outstanding doctoral thesis award for his excellent PhD research in the field of environmental engineering at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia. He completed his PhD successfully in 2020 with a thesis titled, customized hydrochar from biomass materials for water treatment. He made a comprehensive evaluation of biomass conversion into hydrochar using hydrothermal carbonization process. He used novel isotherm, kinetic, chemometric and thermodynamic techniques for studying adsorption mechanism of pollutants by an engineered hydrochar. In addition, he has successfully developed a techno-economic model for the hydrothermal conversion of biomass in an eco-friendly manner using Aspen Plus modelling tool. Moreover, this award recognises an outstanding contribution to the field of study and excellence in higher degree research practice.
