Workshop conducted on climate smart agriculture by the World Vision Lanka in collaboration with the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna for farmers from Kilinochchi district.
A workshop was conducted on climate smart agriculture by the World Vision Lanka in collaboration with the Department of Agricultural Engineering for 50 farmers in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi on the 17th of February, 2022. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Dean of the faculty of Agriculture, Dr.S. Vasantharuba, Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture (Extension) Kilinochchi, Mrs. S. Jegatheeswari, Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Dr. N. Kannan, Retired Senior Lecturer from the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Dr. P. Alvappillai, Development Facilitator World Vision Lanka, Karaichchi, Nagalingam Sivagnanam, Founder and Director of Green Lanka Mentors Pvt. Ltd., Rajeevan Ravinathan, Founder and Director of the Inthira Group Pvt. Ltd., Makeswaran Rajethan, Farm Manager, Mr.S. Sritharan and farmers from Kilinochchi District. It is one of timely needed activities of the Faculty of Agriculture to infect farming community positively to use all agricultural resources in a suitable manner. The country is now suffering from over use of agrochemicals and natural resources for increasing the yield of crops. However, it ultimately causes significant damage to climate change and health of consumers. Therefore, it is required to change the mindset of farmers to go for climate smart agriculture for the sustainable use of resources. It ultimately provides good health to consumers and the environment. The above workshop was therefore highly usable for farming community to learn about emerging concepts related to climate smart agriculture.
