A workshop for farmers titled as “Efficient feeding management technologies for milking cows” was held in the Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna on 07th of March 2022 from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm with the financial support of the AHEAD programme (AHEAD/RA2/ELTAELSE/JFN/FAG/OVAA 08/WS3). Fifty farmers from the northern province were participated in this workshop. Inaugural address of the workshop was delivered by Faculty Project Coordinator/ AHEAD operation, Dr. K.Pakeerathan Thereafter remarks about this workshop was given by Dr.(Mrs).Piratheepan, Head and Senior Lecturer, Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna.
Then the resource person Dr.S.Gowrythilakan Deputy Director/Department of Animal Production and Health delivered a lecture on efficient feeding management technologies for milking cows. Followed by techniques & technologies for formulating ration was explained by Dr. S. Kajaranjan Veterinary Surgeon/Kilinochchi. As a third session, Mr.S.Sritharan, Farm manager, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna took the participants to the field demonstration. Participants visited to Poultry & Livestock farm of the Faculty of Agriculture and observed the farm operation. At the cattle unit the procedure for making silage was demonstrated and the participants was actively participated and learned how to prepare the silage. Thereafter, they visited pasture and fodder units. Finally the certificates for participants were distributed by Dr.(Mrs).S.Piratheepan Head and Senior Lecturer, Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna. The workshop was ended with a concluding remark.
At the end of the workshop participants gave the feed-back as summary.
