The certificate awarding ceremony of the two certificate courses titled “Mushroom Production & Processing Technology, and Vermi-Technology” offered by the Department of Agricultural Biology of the Faculty of Agriculture was held on 21st of May 2022 at the Main Auditorium of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ariviyal Nagar Kilinochchi. The awarding ceremony commenced at 1.00 pm with the lighting of traditional oil lamp by the chief guest Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna. The ceremony was preceded by Dr. K. Pakeerathan, course coordinator and head of the department of Agricultural Biology. The staff members of the Faculty of Agriculture and the fifty-four students (1ம் உழவர் அணி) who followed the course from the different districts of the country such as Mannar, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Nuwara Eliya, Jaffna, and Kurunegala and their parents and well-wishers had participated in this ceremony. In the welcome address Dr. K. Pakeerathan welcomed all the dignitaries and the participants, and emphasized the uniqueness of the course and its purpose. The dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. S. Vasantharuba in his dean address, pointed out the journey of the Faculty of Agriculture and the faculty’s tireless effort in community engagement activities. Chief guest Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah delivered his chief guest address on the importance of the farmers training to develop the region. Thereafter, Mr. N. Kanakasabapathi Nesan from the passing out students (1ம் உழவர் அணி) delivered a speech on the success of this courses and their future support related to this kind of community engagement program. In his speech, he requested the university to support the marketing of mushroom and vermicopost, analyzing the nutritional content of the products. Then mementos were presented to Chief guest Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah; Dr. S. Vasantharuba, dean, Faculty of Agriculture; and course teachers Dr. K. Pakeerathan and Senior Professor Mikunthan by the passed out students (1ம் உழவர் அணி). The awarding ceremony was brought to an end at 2.00 pm by vote of thanks which was delivered by the student Mr. P.Thanusan (1ம் உழவர் அணி).
