The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna has successfully hosted the orientation programme 2021/2022 for the new students who registered for Bachelors of Science (Hons) in Agriculture from 11th September to 15th September 2023.
The orientation programme began with an inaugural ceremony with in-person participants at 9 am on 11th September 2023 at the Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi.
The session was started with traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by welcome address by Mrs. A. Kirisan, Coordinator/Orientation program. The dignitaries, Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, the Vice Chancellor of University of Jaffna, and Prof. S. Vasantharuba, Dean of the Faculty, Prof.S.Sivachandran, Dean, Faculty of Technology, Prof. G.Sashikesh, Director/ Student welfare, Mrs.J.C.Aravintharaj Assistant Registrar/ Student welfare, University of Jaffna graced this event and delivered their addresses. The inaugural session was adjourned with the vote of thanks by Mrs. A. Thushalini.
Programme informative sessions were started at 11.30 am with the brief orientation of six departments and head of the departments gave an overview about the academic courses and available facilities for the students to conduct their academic programme successfully and ended at 3.30 pm.
Second day (12.09.2023) first session was handled by Prof.G.Mikunthan, Senior Professor, Department of Agricultural Biology on “Examinaion regulations and offences”. This was followed by Dr.N.Kannan, who discussed about the Grade Poin Average (GPA) Calculation. Next session was conducted by Mrs.K.Kajeevan, Lecturer (Probationary), Faculty of Agriculture, who gave the address on “Medals and Awards”. Followed by “Sports Facilities” were discussed by Mr.V.Raguvarman, Sports Coordinator, Physical Education Unit, Kilinochhi Premises and discussion was made on the topic of “Mentoring and Student Counselling” by Dr. R. Eeswaran, Student counsellor, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna. In the evening of second day “Mind and Body relaxation” was conducted by heart fullness organization. Which was organized by Mrs. Srinithy Nandasekaran, Retired High Court Judge who have come from Colombo to grace the occasion and delivered the motivational address to the new entrants.
On14th of September, session was started with “Mind and Body relaxation”. Thereafter, students were directed by library staff to get library registration. From 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm students visited to the departments, Computer unit, Library and farm units. On 15th of September session was started with “Mind and Body relaxation”. After that, students were addressed by Dr.Ketheeswaran, Deputy Librarian, University of Jaffna, regarding library facilities. Then, Dr. K. Vengadramana, Proctor, Mr.P.Kajanthan, Marshall, University of Jaffna and Mr. T. Indrakumar, Marshall, University of Jaffna-Kilinochchi premises gave a detailed information on academic disciplines and awareness about ragging. The event was ended with the tree planting at 2.00 pm.September
