Staff and students of the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna invented a new drinking yoghurt incorporated with Bael fruit syrup. License for producing this yoghurt was given to Mullai milk processing industry, Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka. The newly developed yoghurt was launched for commercialization through University business linkage, University of Jaffna at Kailasapathy auditorium on 12th September 2022. This yoghurt was invented by lecturers of Animal Science, Mr.S.Anandkumar, Dr.(Mrs).S.Piratheepan, Mrs.S.Thirucchenthuran and Mr.S.Sivatharshan, Student, Specialized in Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna. This research project was assisted by Prof.D.K.Dinesh D.Jeyasena and Dr.Deshani Mudanayake from Uva Wellassa University, Sri Lanka. Even though the medicinal value of bael fruit is very well known since ancient times, this fruit is still underutilized because of the difficulties in accessing this fruit by all kinds of peoples in the society. Research team of Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna has provided a good solution to this problem by developing a syrup from bael fruit and incorporating this syrup into the most delicious milk product drinking yoghurt. Through this novel product the health beneficial properties of bael fruit is going to be reached to all peoples in the the country.
