Responsible Undergraduate of the Year -2022
New Generation Awards were awarded by the Women in Management New Generation Chapter in collaboration with the Sri Lanka National Youth Services Council. The awards were presented in 42 different categories, covering all the ways in which today’s young people can impact society. The awards aim to connect and collect youth of the country and to train leaders while connecting Sri Lankan youth to job opportunities outside the country and providing developed youth with leadership opportunities, without gender bias.
The prestigious new generation award 2022 awarding ceremony was held on 29th of October 2022 at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo. Ms. Tharushalini Sivathurai (2019/AG/108-31st batch) a third year undergraduate student from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna has won the award under the category of responsible undergraduate of the year. This category expects the following from the applicants; a project carried out by an undergraduate group or society in their own universities, related to awareness, change, empowerment and assistance to help their own university or students. The nomination form should be certified by the head of the faculty.
She was involved in the following projects during 2022;
- No poverty & Life on land: Youth political leadership program- seed distribution campaign project at Tellippalai GS division for 100 farmers in a collaboration with Sarvodaya & Norwegian embassy.
- Environmental & Climate Action: Taking Youths to the highest mountain (Pidurutalagala) Nuwara Eliya for sustainable development goals 4thAnniversary.
- Gender Equality & Quality education: GGP UNICYCLE Active citizens, University of Jaffna – Steps towards change, Social action project, conducted based on the sexual and gender based violence.
- Peace and Justice strong institutions: Interfaith harmony walk & Assembly Hosted by SDGCFSL supported by SDG Youth Network SL.
