Commencement of Certificate Courses

There are two different certificate courses offered by the Department of Agricultural Engineering: principles of micro-irrigation and principles of farm machinery. Applications for above mentioned courses were made open from 01 July 2022 to 22 July 2022. Face to face interview for the applicants was conducted on 20 September 2022 at Department of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, by the course coordinator: Dr. N. Kannan, the Head of the Department, Department of Agricultural Engineering. Forty students each were selected to follow these certificate courses. The orientation program for each course was organized on 21 September 2022 at main Auditorium of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, with the participation of Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice-chancellor, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka and Dr.S.Vasantharuba, the Dean of the Faculty.

The classes for such courses were officially started from 15 October 2022 onwards. The first class for “Principles of Micro-irrigation” was officially started on 15 October 2022. All academic, academic supportive staff and final year students from Department of Agricultural Engineering also participated to conduct the class effectively. The 16 October 2022 (Sunday) was utilized for “Principles of Farm Machinery.” Good interaction with students and staff was observed during class and field visit hours. This is one of the timely needed activities of the Department of Agricultural Engineering to work with community for solving national problems that are related to field irrigation and farm machinery operations.
