The Northern Provincial Council organized an exhibition on “Entrepreneurial School Garden” at Mallavi Central College, Mullaitivu with the coordination of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The exhibition aimed to promote the concept of school gardens with modernized agricultural practices, technology, awareness of food-based dietary patterns and consumption of millet food, preparation of a digital platform for school gardens, and other subjects based on agriculture promotion among school children and youth farmers. The event was held on 10th and 11th of October 2023 at the school premises and was open to school students all over the Northern Province. Faculty of Agriculture also participated in the exhibition. Departments of Agronomy, Animal Science, Agricultural Biology, Agricultural Chemistry, and Agricultural Engineering contributed to the exhibition by showcasing their exhibits and demonstrations to the audience with the financial assistance of the University of Jaffna. They provided valuable insights into the benefits of home gardening and how it can be used to promote sustainable living. Faculty farm unit provided seed and planting materials to the students at low prices and encouraged them to be involved in home gardening. Minister of Education Dr.Susil Premajayantha graced the event as the chief guest. The event was well-attended by students, teachers, and members of various agriculture sectors. The outreach committee of the faculty coordinated the event by arranging the transport facilities from the faculty to the exhibition venue.
