The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna has successfully hosted the orientation programme 2021/2022 for the new students who registered for Bachelors of Science (Hons) in Agriculture from 11th September to 15th September 2023. The orientation programme began with an inaugural ceremony with in-person participants at 9 am on 11th September 2023 at the Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi. The session was started with traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by welcome address by Mrs. A. Kirisan, Coordinator/Orientation program. The dignitaries, Prof. S. H.E. MIZUKOSHI Hideaki, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka and the officials from Embassy of Japan visited Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna at Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi on 11th of August 2023 to oversee JICA’s PRECIDA-UOJ Project. The ambassador and his team were welcomed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Dean and the academic staff of the Faculty of Agriculture. The capacity development workshop for the agriculture undergraduates to address agricultural issues with farming community was organized at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna on 22 July 2023. The inauguration began at 8.30 a.m., and was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, the Dean of the Faculty, staff of the faculty, along with other invited guests. 12 professionals from different organizations related to agriculture sector along with farmers were invited and engaged in a discussion forum where they have shared the problems and opportunities to work together. The Outreach Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture organized a Workshop on “New Trends of Agriculture Industry in Northern Province of Sri Lanka” in collaboration with the Agriculture sector skills council (ASSC) (Ministry of Education) and its implementing partner DevoPro Guarantee Limited on 26th of June 2023 at the main auditorium of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi from 8.00 am-5.30 pm. The prime aim of the workshop was to train the undergraduate students of the faculty of agriculture to work closely with the 10,000 Northern farmers to facilitate them to get the free GAP certificates through a project titled GREEN SEAL, therefore, GAP certificate holding farmers can export their products to foreign countries without any issues. JICA PRECIDA – UOJ has conducted 5S training for the academic and non-academic staff of the Faculty of Agriculture on 8th & 9th of June 2023 at the Research and Training Building of the Faculty of Agriculture in Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Faculty of Agriculture acted as the counterpart in planning and organizing this training program, following a need assessment with the help of Project Experts.
